Despite the popular use of computers that make people call these times as the digital age, the metal age is not over yet. Even if industrial applications now use plastic, the manufacturing industry still sticks with using metals. However, converting ores into shiny metals is time consuming and expensive. But the quality and durability of the metals are still intact, which is why they are continually used in manufacturing now. There are also companies that keep doing metal processes such as shearing, contract slitting, stamping and OEM slitting.

Metals re not only used in the manufacturing industry though. They are still used for industrial and domestic purpose. There are even five common metals for these purposes.

Iron

This is one of the most popular metals in the world due to its abundant supply. This is also one of the most abundant metals found in the human body. This makes iron useful for medicinal purposes too. It has become popular because it is used in making steel, which is a strong and stainless metal. It also has an even-heating property.

Copper

This is one of the oldest types of metals discovered in the history of man but it is still popular now. It is among the first few metals used in tool making and coinage. It is easy to mould into different things and its ductility makes it easier to work with. Pure copper is too soft so it is often mixed with other forms of metals. It is an effective conductor of electricity and heat, which is why it is used for wirings and piping.

Aluminium

This is the most abundant metal in the world and the most popular one as well due to its many applications. It is corrosion resistant and has low density, the reasons why they are commonly preferred in making more things. You can easily find aluminium in household items such as aluminium foils and tin cans for your canned goofs. This metal is also used for manufacturing and industrial purposes, for instance in the aircraft and automobile industries.

Titanium

This is best known as a space age metal. It is often treated as the metal of the next age that will dominate many industries in the future. Even if it has good properties, its ores are not easily mined and the process is expensive. This is why steel and aluminium are still more popular than it is. Titanium possesses the highest strength to weight ratio among all the metals discovered today. It is lightweight, which all the more makes it the best metal to be used in making military jets and spacecrafts. It is also an important component in high water resistant diving watches.

Zinc

This is more brittle and harder than the other common metals used today. It is best used for galvanisation, such as when it is coated on steel and iron. Another use for zinc is for making batteries.

These are the common metals that are used by various industries now. They have different properties that make them ideal for different applications.
